18 to 27 September, 11am to 5pm
Opening event: Thursday 17 September, 6-8pm
Everyone welcome!
Ji Yoon Lee is a multidisciplinary artist. This new work examines how digital technology impacts our bodies, exploring the tension between the physical and virtual realities, as well as the profound sense of absence.
Ceramic body fragments resemble shed clothing, a crouched figure is painted trapped within a grid, and virtual body modification services created using AI programmes, vividly expose the fractures that digital media technology inflicts on our perception.
“As we grow accustomed to the relentless speed of technology, our bodies by comparison, increasingly feel like a burden or frustrate us. Media technology paralyses our senses with dazzling performances that leave us no room to breathe, ultimately rendering us addicted.”
This new body of work is generously supported by a VACMA (Visual Arts and Crafts Makers Awards) bursary and the ESW Members Exhibiting Bursary from Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop.
See you there!
